Mental Health Musings

How do I improve my wellbeing? I get asked this a lot in my coaching. I have loads of top tips but here are a few of my favourites.

Modelling healthy behaviours for business owners is essential, using 5 ways to wellbeing every day can improve the way you think, feel and act.

So what are the 5 ways to wellbeing?

It is a fantastic resource used by MIND, NHS and many other organisations and charities. I use it in my coaching and also my mental health training. The 5 ways to wellbeing are:

Be active, keep learning, be mindful, connect with others and give to others. Let’s explore each of them and see how you can add some additional wellbeing time into your day.

Be active – physical health is so connected to mental health. So if you are ever feeling flat, unmotivated, low or anxious then try an activity. Doesn’t need to be a long time, just spend some time moving and even better get outside for some vitamin D. I always find that if you make time  for activity that it helps with adding some more wellbeing in the day as you energy is higher!

Keep learning – new skills, create opportunities and be open to change. Learning is essential for nourishing our minds and enables us to enhance our critical thinking.

“It’s only after you’ve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”
Roy T. Bennett

Be mindful – notice your feelings and how they affect your thoughts, thinking and behaviour. Try be present while you do mindful; activities such as yoga, taking a break, meditation etc

Connect with others – spend time with people that build you up. Yes connection is about spending time with others but it is more about unity, building relationships and can help with our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems.

Give to others – your time, words, comfort, any giving in the smallest ways can reinforce our own personal values and feel like we're living in a way that is true to our own ethical beliefs.

Mental health, like physical health needs nurturing and consistency. Sometimes it can seem that we don’t have enough time in our day to do all of the above however if you even commit to a short time on each, it will help you feel more focused, productive and motivated. Let me know how you get on, I would love to hear from you.
