Wellbeing top tip

Last year I was asked to write a short blog for Stephanie from Motivating Mum networking and as I was thinking about some inspiration to share for business owners during lockdown I found this blog on kindness and thought it was very fitting for lockdown 2.0.

Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change. Bob Kerrey

As a Business Coach with a very important focus on mental health, I have a large toolbox of tips around wellbeing so it was very difficult to write about one wellbeing tip. After a bit of thinking I chose kindness, here is why.

Kindness is one of my sanity saviours. In my 30s as a new mum and a new business owner my unkind thoughts about myself stopped me from achieving what I wanted to accomplish. I had very little confidence in my own abilities so felt uncomfortable about helping others in their business.

Can you relate? After a few years in business that is why I changed my focus to mental health coaching and training because it is so linked with performance in business. A positive frame of mind increases your motivation to succeed and get you what you want. Stop and reflect on your current thinking. How can you be kinder to yourself and reduce that negative thinking?

  • Understand your triggers; where are your negative thoughts coming from? If you are more aware you can then do something about it.
  • Mind your language; think about your self-talk and consider using the word BUT after your sentence or using the word YET is also very powerful. Example; I’m not doing well in business but I am learning everyday and I love helping others to learn too. Isn’t this more positive that just saying I am not doing well in business?
  • Surround yourself with people who…. build you up, those who give and receive kindness.

To finish here are two quotes from two very special people in my life, my kids thoughts on kindness:

“kindness is sharing” Ava, aged 5.
“kindness to yourself is saying you can do it” Seth, aged 7.
